A Woman in Her 70s with Hypertension Dies While Receiving COVID-19 Treatment in Daejeon
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] A woman in her 70s who was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and was undergoing treatment in Daejeon has died.
According to Daejeon City on the 3rd, patient A, the 19th confirmed case in the region, died yesterday while receiving treatment. Earlier, patient A was diagnosed with COVID-19 on March 11 and was hospitalized at Chungnam National University Hospital for treatment.
Patient A died 52 days after being admitted to the hospital, and it is reported that she had underlying conditions such as hypertension.
At the time patient A was diagnosed with COVID-19, her husband (in his 80s) was also confirmed positive on the same day, but he was declared fully recovered and released from quarantine as of March 28.
Heo Tae-jung, mayor of Daejeon, said on Facebook, "I received the sad news that the first COVID-19 death has occurred in our region," and added, "Since we earnestly hoped that all COVID-19 patients would overcome the illness and return to their daily lives to enjoy happy lives with their families, the sorrow is even greater."
