Live Performance Enjoyed Inside the Car: 'Seoripul Drive-in Concert'
Live Concert in Drive-In Theater Style Every Sunday at 7:30 PM in May at Seocho-gu Office Outdoor Special Stage... Enjoy Various Music Genres Including Classical, Opera Gala, and Trot on One Stage
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Eunhee Jo) will hold a new concept live performance to enjoy in the car, the ‘Seoripul Drive-in Concert,’ every Sunday at 7:30 PM from the 3rd to the end of May at the outdoor special stage of Seocho-gu Office.
The ‘Seoripul Drive-in Concert’ is a unique concert organized by Seocho-gu in the form of a drive-in theater where residents can watch performances from inside their cars, providing an opportunity to enjoy high-quality cultural performances amid the fatigue caused by COVID-19.
By attending performances using private vehicles, audiences can maintain ‘social distancing’ while vividly experiencing artists’ live performances up close, emerging as a new model of live concerts.
This concert is expected to be a great opportunity to enjoy various genres of music performances such as classical, opera gala, and trot on one stage.
In particular, Baek Jong-hoon, the permanent conductor of the Seocho Symphony Orchestra who founded the Republic of Korea Armed Forces Symphony Orchestra and served as its first music director, participates as the artistic director, presenting high-quality performances including classical, jazz, opera arias, pops, and trot.
The live performance of the symphony orchestra conducted in the ‘drive-in concert’ format is the first case nationwide with this ‘Seoripul Drive-in Concert.’
On the first day of the performance, the 3rd, top domestic vocalists such as soprano Yoon Kyung Lee and tenor Younghoon Heo will appear, led by the symphony orchestra’s orchestral performance, showcasing the essence of classical music.
Also, singer-songwriter Seongsu Choi, who has been consistently loved with hit songs like ‘Pulip Sarang’ and ‘Donghaeng,’ and new-generation trot singer Yoyomi will perform together, delivering a passionate stage where 70s and 80s music and trot harmonize.
The collaboration between domestic jazz musicians such as malo and the Seocho Symphony Orchestra, presented on the second performance day, the 10th, is also noteworthy. Various performers including classical artists, popular singers, and trot stars will take the stage weekly to present different performances.
Audience members can listen through radio frequencies or roll down their windows to enjoy the live performance directly. The district is also preparing real-time live streaming via its YouTube channel for residents who cannot attend the limited on-site venue. To minimize the risk of COVID-19 infection, the concert features string instruments rather than wind instruments.
Residents wishing to attend the ‘Seoripul Drive-in Concert’ can make advance reservations from 2 PM on Fridays, two days before each performance, through the Seocho-gu Office website.
The performance lasts 90 minutes, and reservations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis for 80 vehicles per performance. Upon entering the venue, the temperature of all attendees will be checked, and those with fever symptoms will be denied entry. All audience members must wear masks and use hand sanitizer.

Seocho-gu Mayor Eunhee Jo said, “As social distancing due to COVID-19 continues, it has been difficult for residents to find opportunities to enjoy cultural life, and the cultural and arts sector is facing economic difficulties due to the cancellation of various cultural and artistic performances. We prepared this ‘Drive-in Concert’ to provide a small help to both.”
