Fire at Cheorwon Military Base Shooting Range... Extinguished Before Sunset
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] On the 1st, a fire broke out at a military shooting range in Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon Province.
According to authorities, the fire started around 3:40 PM at the military shooting range in Dochang-ri, Kimhwa-eup, Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon Province. The authorities deployed six helicopters to extinguish the fire and managed to put it out around 7:15 PM, about 3 hours and 30 minutes later.
The fire occurred at a military shooting range where unexploded ordnance was scattered, making it difficult to deploy personnel and complicating firefighting efforts. It was confirmed that no shooting training took place at the range on that day.
The forestry authorities stated, "We deployed firefighting helicopters and contained the flames before sunset," adding, "Since it is a military shooting range, it is not considered a forest fire damage."
