Suncheon-si, Pilot Installation of 'Safety Screens' in Women's Public Restrooms
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do announced on the 1st that it is promoting a pilot project to install ‘Women’s Public Restroom Safety Screens’ that block illegal filming in women’s public restrooms, due to growing concerns among female users about illegal filming through the open lower sections of public restroom partitions.
The city attached and installed the screens in outdoor public restrooms such as Joryeho Lake Park, considering factors such as crime occurrence frequency and restroom user numbers, so that women can use public restrooms with peace of mind. Signs stating ‘Illegal Filming Prevention Safety Screen Installed’ were also posted at the entrances of these restrooms to help prevent crimes in advance.
After this pilot installation, if monitoring determines that it is effective in crime prevention and that users’ satisfaction is high, the city plans to expand the installation to public restrooms throughout the city by improving management convenience, durability, and aesthetics.
A Suncheon City official said, “Illegal filming is a serious crime, and Suncheon City will take the lead in eradicating this crime so that women can use public restrooms with confidence.”
