At the first meeting of the government's Employment Crisis Response Team held on the 1st at the Economic, Social and Labor Council (ESLC), Minister Lee stated that they will prepare 'post-COVID jobs' in response to the situation after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Minister Lee said, "We will support the rapid creation of jobs in digital-based non-face-to-face industries such as telemedicine, education, and distribution, as well as in sectors expected to see large-scale investments like 5G communication networks."
He emphasized, "Due to COVID-19, it is difficult for job demand to recover immediately. We will provide job opportunities to vulnerable groups such as youth in non-face-to-face sectors utilizing IT and develop these into sustainable jobs."
The special employment stability measures worth 10.1 trillion won announced by the government on the 22nd of last month include plans to create a total of 550,000 jobs across government sectors targeting youth in non-face-to-face and digital fields.
Minister Lee said, "We will coordinate all ministries to operate government support projects from the perspective of maintaining employment," adding, "The prerequisite for overcoming the crisis is to protect jobs, and this is why the government must prioritize supporting companies in maintaining employment."
He explained, "The current economic crisis is mainly caused by the external shock of COVID-19," and "The basic direction for overcoming this crisis is to minimize the impact of such external factors on the lives of the people."
He also added, "We plan to soon implement wage loan projects for companies maintaining employment and support projects for companies that have signed employment maintenance agreements between labor and management," and "We will prepare various policy alternatives that can give preferential treatment to companies maintaining employment in government support projects."
