IPTV and Cable Industry Increasing 'Homeschooling' Content
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] As the opening of daycare centers and kindergartens is postponed due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the paid broadcasting industry such as IPTV and cable is significantly increasing 'homeschooling' content. Educational content for preschool children is being expanded, and programs that help proper child education and play methods are being continuously scheduled.
KT, in partnership with Kyowon Group, will exclusively provide over 150 learning contents for kindergarten and elementary school students on KT Kidsland until the end of next month. Any Olleh TV subscriber can freely access over 150 VODs including about 90 core special lecture contents for all elementary school grades of ‘Smart Red Pen’ and about 40 ‘All Story’ book cinema contents through the Kidsland menu. This is the first time Kyowon Group’s learning content is provided through Internet TV (IPTV).
LG HelloVision also offers ways to fully utilize the Idulnara educational content for parents who want smart homeschooling. △The reading habit section introduces methods to cultivate healthy reading habits suited to the child’s tendencies through Idulnara’s ‘Woongjin Book Club TV’ and ‘Reading Aloud TV’ services. △The English learning section provides tips on conducting level tests and effectively using customized premium English education content through the ‘English Kindergarten’ menu.
SK Broadband has also expanded the range and number of contents in the ‘B tv Homeschooling Special Hall,’ which has been operating free of charge since the end of February. Previously, the ‘B tv Homeschooling Special Hall’ provided content mainly for preschool children to 3rd graders, but now the target range has been expanded to 6th graders. It offers a total of 122 titles and 1,575 learning VODs for free, including best-read books for elementary students produced by EBS and Hansol Education, as well as Korean literacy, math basics, alphabet mastery, and safety education for preschool children.
