Lee Jae-gang, Vision Committee Chair of the Democratic Party Busan City Branch, Appointed as Vice Governor for Peace of Gyeonggi Province
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-gang (57), Vision Committee Chairman of the Democratic Party Busan City Party, has been nominated as the Deputy Governor for Peace of Gyeonggi Province.
The nominee, originally from Uiseong, Gyeongbuk, graduated from the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy at Pusan National University and completed doctoral coursework in political science focusing on unification and politics at the London School of Economics and Political Science in the UK, making him an expert in the field of peaceful unification.
While in the UK, he served as Vice President of the Federation of Korean Associations in the UK, and has held positions such as Chairman of the Democratic Party’s Seo-gu District Committee in Busan and full-time auditor at the Korea Housing & Urban Guarantee Corporation.
The province is said to have considered these aspects comprehensively and nominated him as a suitable candidate for the Deputy Governor for Peace, who handles political communication and unification policy affairs.
The nominee ran for the Busan Seo-gu and Dong-gu districts in the April 15 general election but was defeated.
The Deputy Governor for Peace is a position that deals with unification and peace issues on the Korean Peninsula, newly established when Governor Lee Jae-myung took office.
The inaugural Deputy Governor for Peace, former lawmaker Lee Hwa-young, resigned in January to run in the general election, leaving the position vacant for about three months.
