10 Megabox Theaters Reopen After Closure "Creating a Safe Environment"
Operation starts from the 1st of next month... KINTEX, Pyeongtaek, Ulsan, Masan, Daegu, and more
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jong-gil] Multiplex Megabox announced on the 27th that ten directly managed stores, which were closed due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), will resume operations on the 1st of next month. The targeted branches are Kintex, Pyeongtaek (both in Gyeonggi), Ulsan, Masan (both in Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam), Daegu, Daegu Shinsegae, Gumi Gangdong, Nampo Ham, Mungyeong (all in Daegu, Gyeongbuk), and Daejeon Jungang-ro (in Daejeon). However, considering that social distancing will be maintained until the 5th of next month, the number of screenings will be reduced from the afternoon. A company official said, “We will continue to create a safe movie-watching environment by disinfecting theaters, preparing viewer lists, providing hand sanitizers, requiring mask-wearing, and seating with spacing in front and behind.”
Earlier, CGV announced that it will resume operations on the 29th for thirty-six directly managed stores that were closed due to the impact of COVID-19. These include Daehak-ro, Myeongdong, Suyu, Cheongdam Cine City, Piccadilly 1958, Hagye (all in Seoul), Gimpo Pungmu, Uijeongbu Taeheung, Paju Munsan, Pyeongtaek Sosa, Yeonsu Station, Incheon Airport (all in Gyeonggi and Incheon), Daejeon Gao, Cheonan, Cheongju Yullyang, Hongseong (all in Daejeon and Chungcheong), Centum City, Masan, Changwon (all in Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam), Daegu, Daegu Suseong, Daegu Stadium, Daegu Hanil, Daegu Hyundai, Daegu Wolseong, Daegu Academy, Pohang (all in Daegu and Gyeongbuk), Gwangju Geumnam-ro, Gwangju Yongbong, Gwangju Hanam, Seojeonju, Jeonju Gosa, Jeonju Hyoja, Mokpo (all in Gwangju and Jeolla), Wonju, Jeju (both in Gangwon and Jeju). The number of screenings will be reduced to three per day. The ‘Screen Cut Off System’ applied to some theaters will also be maintained for the time being.

Lotte Cinema, which closed six directly managed stores, is also expected to announce its intention to resume operations soon. A company official said, “There have been recent concrete discussions,” and “We are coordinating an appropriate time to resume operations.” The currently suspended branches are Gyeongsan, Daegu Gwangjang, Daegu Yulha, Dongseong-ro, Sangin, and Seongseo (all in Daegu and Gyeongbuk).
