Jongno-gu Provides Infertility Treatment Support Without Age Restrictions
For Infertile Couples Under Legal or Common-Law Marriage with Income Below 180% of Median Standard - Up to 300,000 KRW for Embryo Freezing, and Up to 200,000 KRW Each for Implantation Aids and Miscarriage Prevention Drugs
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jongno-gu (Mayor Kim Young-jong) is conducting the '2020 Infertile Couples Treatment Expense Support Project' to alleviate the financial burden on infertile couples.
The project aims to create a childbirth-friendly social atmosphere conducive to having and raising children, and the implementation period is until December this year.
The target beneficiaries are legally married or common-law infertile couples with a household income at or below 180% of the median income. There is no age limit, and for dual-income couples, only 50% of the insurance premium of the lower-earning spouse is counted toward the combined income. The number of supported treatments includes up to 7 fresh embryo transfers, up to 5 frozen embryo transfers, and up to 5 artificial inseminations, with support provided only for treatments covered by health insurance.
The support amount covers 90% of the out-of-pocket expenses for artificial insemination and in vitro fertilization procedures, up to 300,000 KRW for embryo freezing fees, and up to 200,000 KRW each for implantation aids and miscarriage prevention medications.
Applicants wishing to apply should visit the Jongno-gu Public Health Center (Jahamun-ro 19-gil 36) to apply for in vitro fertilization treatment support, receive a ‘Support Decision Notice,’ and submit it to the infertility treatment institution.
The application form must be downloaded from the district office website (http://www.jongno.go.kr), and applicants must receive a phone consultation before visiting in person.
For more detailed information, refer to the ‘Infertile Couples Treatment Expense Support’ page under the Medical Expense Support Project on the district office website or contact the Health Promotion Division, Family Health Team at the Public Health Center (☎2148-3630) for guidance.
Additionally, as part of its childbirth encouragement policy, Jongno-gu provides childbirth and childcare support funds to celebrate births and assist with child-rearing. The support amounts are 300,000 KRW for the first child, 1,000,000 KRW for the second child, and 1,500,000 KRW for the third child and beyond.
Applications can be made by the father or mother registered as residents with the newborn within one year from the date of birth by visiting the local community service center with the required documents. However, the newborn must have been registered and residing in the district for at least 10 months prior to the birth date.
The district also supports childbirth encouragement health insurance premiums. This applies to the third child or later infants registered and residing in Jongno-gu with either parent, with a minimum residence period of 10 months. Applicants can submit an integrated processing application form at the community service center when registering the birth.

We will combine government policies with community-level efforts to make Jongno a great place to have and raise children.”
