Mapo-gu Operates 11 'Safe Lodgings' to Prevent Secondary Infections Among Families of Self-Quarantined Individuals
When a family member is under self-quarantine, discounted hotel and hostel stays available during isolation period... 11 designated locations including Lotte City Hotel Mapo and Shilla Stay Mapo, operating from the 20th
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) is operating 11 hotels and hostels in the area as ‘Safe Accommodations’ to prevent secondary infections among families of individuals in self-quarantine due to COVID-19.
This measure is part of a response to concerns about secondary infections among family members who have no choice but to stay together with self-quarantined individuals at home, following the mandatory 14-day self-quarantine for overseas arrivals implemented on April 1.
Residents of Mapo-gu who have a family member in self-quarantine can use hotels or hostels in the area at discounted rates during the quarantine period.
To this end, the district designated 11 local tourist accommodations, including Lotte City Hotel Mapo, Shilla Stay Mapo, and Cleo Hostel, as ‘Safe Accommodations’ and began operations on the 20th.
Family members of self-quarantined individuals who wish to stay at Safe Accommodations should consult with the accommodation facilities in advance regarding basic admission conditions before checking in.
Users can stay at sanitized accommodations at affordable prices, and lodging facilities, which are struggling due to a decrease in tourists, are expected to partially recover their business losses.
Details on Mapo-gu’s Safe Accommodations can be found on the Mapo-gu website (www.mapo.go.kr).
The district has formed and is operating a Self-Quarantine Management Team within the organization to prevent unauthorized departures of self-quarantined individuals.
In addition to dedicated public officials for self-quarantine management, volunteer groups such as the Volunteer Fire Brigade are mobilized to deliver daily necessities and essential medicines to them and to minimize other inconveniences in daily life.
As of April 24, Mapo-gu is managing 582 self-quarantined individuals.

Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun of Mapo-gu said, “Since we are not yet at a stage where we can be fully assured, I hope all residents will continue to stay strong until the end,” adding, “We will continue our best quarantine efforts until the last self-quarantined individual is released and there are no further concerns.”
