View original image[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] 'Korean son-in-law' Larry Hogan, Governor of Maryland, USA, strongly criticized once again President Donald Trump's remark about 'injecting disinfectant into the human body' in relation to the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Larry Hogan, a Republican governor, appeared consecutively on ABC and CBS broadcasts on the 26th (local time), and confronted President Trump by saying, "Press conferences should be based on facts."
In an interview with ABC on the same day, Hogan introduced the chaos that followed President Trump's remark. He said that after President Trump's statement about injecting disinfectant, Maryland's emergency counseling hotline was flooded with calls asking whether it was possible to inject or ingest disinfectant products into the human body for COVID-19 treatment.
He also introduced the fact that the state authorities issued a warning stating 'Under no circumstances should disinfectants be swallowed.'
Governor Hogan pointedly said, "I really cannot explain President Trump's mention of disinfectants." He added, "I think the president should focus on the message and make sure the press conference is based on facts."
Appearing on CBS, Hogan emphasized, "The President of the United States must convey the truth in a situation where the people are terrified and there is a global pandemic, but unfortunately, some have not done so." He expressed concern that "when messages conflict, confusion multiplies several times," repeatedly stressing the importance of accurate briefings.
Known as the 'Korean son-in-law' due to his Korean wife, Hogan recently 'imported' 500,000 COVID-19 test kits from Korea, which became a target of criticism from President Trump. Despite belonging to the same Republican Party, they took different stances on the response to COVID-19.
On the 23rd, during a COVID-19 task force (TF) briefing, President Trump faced a huge backlash after suggesting to consider ultraviolet light exposure and injecting disinfectants into the human body, following a Department of Homeland Security official's introduction of research results that the virus is weak in hot and humid environments and dies quickly when exposed to disinfectants.
He did not hold COVID-19 TF briefings on the 25th and 26th and claimed via Twitter that lawsuits against the media's fake news reports were possible and that people did not know how hard he was working.
Meanwhile, on the same day, Debbie Birx, White House COVID-19 Task Force coordinator, appeared on CNN and, when a host pointed out that President Trump's remarks were potentially dangerous and that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) should have issued a statement, said, "It bothers me that this is still in the news," but failed to clearly point out President Trump's mistake and showed a supportive stance, becoming a topic of gossip.
