Sim Jae-cheol: "'Kim Jong-in Emergency Committee' Activity Period Around March Next Year"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Shim Jae-cheol, Acting Representative and Floor Leader of the United Future Party, has set the activity deadline of the 'Kim Jong-in Emergency Response Committee' until March next year.
At a press conference held at the National Assembly on the 26th, Acting Representative Shim said, "Kim Jong-in, the appointed Emergency Response Committee Chairman, stated his position that 'I will complete preparations for winning the next presidential election by March next year and then leave,'" conveying this information.
He continued, "It is a clear false report that some media outlets claim the Emergency Response Committee Chairman has full authority and an indefinite term," adding, "The floor leader and the policy committee chairman, who are elected through elections, also have definite authority, so it makes no sense to say he has full authority. This is malicious agitation by some media."
Acting Representative Shim emphasized, "Our party's last hope is victory in the presidential election in March the year after next," and added, "We must deeply reflect on the defeat in this general election, undergo a complete transformation, and ensure a certain victory in the presidential election. That is why we have appointed former Chairman Kim as the Emergency Response Committee Chairman. This was a decision made by the majority of incumbents and elected members."
Regarding voices opposing the 'Kim Jong-in Emergency Response Committee' inside and outside the party, he said, "I expected such voices, but they are a minority," and added, "The majority of incumbent lawmakers and elected members have no choice but to operate under the Kim Jong-in Emergency Response Committee system. Although the minority voices speaking out seem loud, the silent majority is much larger."
On the possibility of the nationwide committee rejecting the Kim Jong-in Emergency Response Committee scheduled for the 28th, he said, "Is there a possibility? I think it will go well."
