San Francisco Ballet's Park Won-ah Promoted to Principal Dancer
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] Park Won-ah (21), the first Korean to be a full company member of the San Francisco Ballet, will be promoted to principal dancer.
The San Francisco Ballet announced on its website on the 22nd that Park Won-ah will be promoted to principal dancer on July 1. This comes two years after her promotion to soloist. Park joined the San Francisco Ballet as a full company member in 2017 and was promoted to soloist the following year.
In her first year as a soloist, she received acclaim for her roles as Kitri in Don Quixote and Princess Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty. This year, she gained attention by performing the grand pas classique pas de deux at the regular gala performance.
In 2015, while attending the first year at Sunhwa Arts High School, she received a scholarship offer from the San Francisco Ballet School and moved to the United States.

The San Francisco Ballet is considered one of the "Big Four" American ballet companies along with the American Ballet Theatre (ABT), New York City Ballet, and Boston Ballet. Founded in 1933, it is the oldest professional ballet company in the United States.
