Gimhae City Launches Construction of Gimhae Sports Complex ... Scheduled for Completion in March 2023
Namyang Construction Selected as Construction Contractor
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] Gimhae City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 23rd that it has finally selected the qualified bidder for the detailed design of the Gimhae Sports Complex construction project, which will host the opening and closing ceremonies and athletics events of the 104th National Sports Festival in 2023, and will proceed with the construction in earnest.
Last November, Gimhae City announced a bid through the Public Procurement Service using a design-build lump-sum contract (turnkey method). Namyang Construction Consortium and Hanjin Heavy Industries Consortium participated in the bidding. After the basic design review by the Gyeongsangnam-do Technical Review Committee on the 20th and the bid opening by the Public Procurement Service, Namyang Construction Consortium, which offered the lowest price, was finally selected as the qualified bidder for the detailed design.
The city plans to promptly complete administrative procedures such as various impact assessments, urban planning facility decisions, and detailed plan approvals, aiming for completion in March 2023, and then begin civil engineering works.
The Gimhae Sports Complex will be built on the site of 1049-2 Gusan-dong, consisting of three basement floors and three above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 66,668㎡, and a capacity to accommodate 15,076 spectators. Starting with the National Sports Festival and the National Para Games in October 2023, nationwide sports events such as the National Youth Sports Festival and the National Para Student Games in May 2024, and the National Sports for All Festival in April 2025 will be held consecutively.
After the Sports Festival, the city plans to continuously attract large-scale national sports competitions such as the Gyeongnam Provincial Sports Festival and the National Athletics Championships, while developing the complex into a top-level sports and cultural center responsible for citizens' health and leisure, maximizing the use of the sports complex.
