"Emergency Disaster Relief Fund Has Arrived" Beware of COVID-19 Smishing Texts
[Asia Economy Reporter Shinwon Yoon] As support for damages related to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) is being intensified, smishing scams exploiting this are rampant, so caution is required.
On the 21st, the Seoul Metropolitan Government reported that from the 1st to the 13th, about 130 suspected smishing messages related to 'COVID-19 Emergency Disaster Relief' were reported to the Korea Internet & Security Agency. It is expected that smishing will increase further from mid-month when various support funds are actually scheduled to be paid.
The city warned, "If the source is unclear or even slightly suspicious, the message should be deleted immediately."
