'The Elixir of Saryang' as a Kids Opera... 'Pupu Island' Opens on Children's Day
[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] La Bella Opera Company will perform the kids' opera "Pupu Island" at the Seoul Arts Center Jayu Small Theater from May 5 to 17.
"Pupu Island" is an adaptation of the Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti's masterpiece "L'elisir d'amore" tailored to the perspective of children. It is suitable for audiences aged 48 months and older. The composition and arrangement are by composer Seo Soonjung, and the script is by writer Gong Gahi, promising a lively and unique children's performance. Opera specialist conductor Yang Jinmo serves as the music director, with conductor Park Haewon and director Ahn Jueun participating in the production.
The characters from the original "L'elisir d'amore," including "Nemorino," "Adina," and "Dulcamara," appear as they are, while a new cheerful character, the children's unicorn "Pupi," makes an appearance. Pupi, a Pupu with mysterious powers, recreates the imaginary rainbow island "Pupu Island" on stage. Additionally, with its catchy theme song, it stimulates children's curiosity and encourages audience participation. This performance is interactive, allowing children in the audience to sing along and dance with the cast.
