Gwangju City Operates Pilot Zone for Fine Dust Clean Management
Designated Geumho 2-dong in Seogu... Focused Management of Areas with High Concentration of Vulnerable Groups
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 21st that it has designated Geumho 2-dong in Seo-gu as a ‘Fine Dust Clean Management Pilot Zone’ and has begun full-scale operation to promote fine dust reduction projects that can be carried out together with local residents.
The ‘Fine Dust Clean Management Pilot Zone’ was designated to focus on managing fine dust and improving air quality. Currently, under the Fine Dust Act, areas densely populated with facilities used by vulnerable groups to fine dust such as children and the elderly are designated as intensive management zones to support various air quality improvement projects.
Accordingly, in November last year, Gwangju selected nine candidate areas within the city based on the ‘Ministry of Environment Fine Dust Intensive Management Zone Designation System Implementation Plan Research Report,’ and after considering fine dust concentration, density of facilities used by vulnerable groups, consultations with autonomous districts, and residents’ opinions, Geumho 2-dong (area 1.19㎢) was chosen as the first pilot zone.
Geumho 2-dong has a total of 55 facilities used by vulnerable groups to fine dust, including 32 daycare centers, 7 kindergartens, 2 elementary schools, and 14 elderly welfare facilities (senior centers), which is relatively high compared to other areas.
