Representing Italy, the luxury brand Bulgari (BVLGARI) has supplied hundreds of thousands of hand sanitizers to Italian medical facilities and the canton of Neuch?tel since March to respond to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), and has now announced plans to expand the free distribution of hand sanitizers to other regions in Switzerland.
Having initially donated hand sanitizers to medical facilities in the canton of Neuch?tel, Bulgari has strengthened the production capacity and speed of hand sanitizers through collaboration with its long-time partner, perfume manufacturer ICR, to expand supply to several Swiss cantons, one of the countries with the highest infection rates per capita.
The hand sanitizers are not part of Bulgari’s official manufactured and sold products but were newly produced to participate in Italy’s COVID-19 prevention efforts.
Bulgari plans to donate approximately 100,000 hand sanitizers by the end of April to five cantons heavily affected by COVID-19, which account for more than 50% of Swiss infection cases: Geneva, Vaud, Valais, Basel, and Zug. All hand sanitizers are produced in recyclable 75ml packages. Bulgari intends to continue expanding the supply of hand sanitizers to other regions in need.
Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of Bulgari, commented on the donation expansion: “As a major economic player in Switzerland, Bulgari is committed to efforts to prevent and eradicate COVID-19. Roman jeweler Bulgari, leveraging its expertise in perfume manufacturing, collaborates with partner ICR at its production facility in Lodi, Italy, to supply hand sanitizers. We believe Bulgari’s social contribution to eradicate COVID-19 in these difficult times is a natural obligation.”
Regarding this, Mauro Poggia, member of the Geneva cantonal council, said, “As a Geneva council member, my duty is to be responsible for the health, safety, and employment of Geneva’s residents. The free supply of hand sanitizers to patients and their caregivers by important economic players like Bulgari will help overcome the COVID pandemic crisis.” Rebecca Ruiz, member of the Vaud cantonal council and head of the Department of Health and Social Welfare, also expressed gratitude to Bulgari for its donation, stating, “Hand sanitizers are an indispensable asset for medical institutions.” The Zug cantonal council member and head of the Department of Health added, “I am confident that global efforts, including Bulgari’s donation during these difficult times, will help us overcome the pandemic crisis.”
Bulgari plans to continue supporting with hundreds of thousands of hand sanitizers over the next two months, targeting other Swiss cantons and countries in Europe severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
