Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Province Faces Crisis Over Monthly 70,000 Won 'Youth Allowance Payment' Cancellation
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] The payment of the 'Youth Allowance' promoted by Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is expected to be canceled again this year following last year.
On the 21st, Goseong-gun announced that the 'Goseong-gun Youth Dream Voucher Support Ordinance' submitted to the county council was rejected by the General Affairs Committee, the standing committee in charge.
This ordinance includes provisions to provide cash-type points of 50,000 to 70,000 KRW per month to youths aged 13 to 18 residing in the county.
The youth allowance was actively promoted when Baek Doo-hyun, the mayor of Goseong-gun, announced the policy last year, but the standing committee rejected the ordinance again this year, citing low financial independence and insufficient tax revenue.
In particular, the standing committee pointed out, "If the allowance is universally paid to all youths, it is necessary to consider whether there will be any backlash from other social groups."
