President Moon's Approval Rating at 58.3%... Highest Since Pyongyang Summit [Realmeter]
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] President Moon Jae-in's approval rating for his administration has reached its highest level since the 2018 Pyongyang Inter-Korean Summit, continuing its upward trend.
According to Realmeter, which conducted a public opinion survey commissioned by YTN from the 13th to the 17th (excluding the 15th), the positive evaluation of President Moon's administration rose by 3.9 percentage points from the previous week's aggregate to 58.3%, as announced on the 20th. This is the highest level since the fourth week of October 2018 (58.7%), right after the Pyongyang Inter-Korean Summit. Negative evaluations dropped by 4.7 percentage points to 37.6%.
The gap between positive and negative evaluations stands at 20.7 percentage points, which is outside the margin of error. This is also the largest gap since the fourth week of October 2018 survey (positive 58.7% · negative 35.6%), which showed a 23.1 percentage point difference.
By region, positive evaluations were as follows: Gwangju·Jeolla 84.1%, Seoul 60.5%, Gyeonggi·Incheon 59.9%, Jeju 52.9%, Daejeon·Sejong·Chungcheong 52.2%, Busan·Gyeongnam·Ulsan 51.8%, Gangwon 48.4%, and Daegu·Gyeongbuk (TK) 43.4%. In the TK region, negative evaluations (54.6%) were the only ones among the eight regions to exceed 50%.
By generation, positive evaluations were as follows: 40s 69.7%, 30s 64.8%, 50s 59.3%, 20s 52.7%, and 60 and older 49.4%. All generations showed higher positive evaluations than negative ones.
In terms of party support, the Democratic Party of Korea recorded its highest level in 1 year and 9 months at 46.8%, which appears to be a bandwagon effect following the general election victory. On the other hand, the United Future Party, which lost the general election, dropped by 1.2 percentage points to 28.4%, remaining in the 20% range for three consecutive weeks.
