KAIST Hosts Online International Forum to Overcome COVID-19
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] A real-time online international forum to overcome the novel coronavirus pandemic is set to take place.
KAIST announced on the 20th that it will hold the ‘Global Strategy Institute (GSI) - International Forum 2020’ on the 22nd at the Academic and Cultural Center of the KAIST main campus in Daejeon.
The forum will be held under the theme of ‘Global Cooperation Measures to Overcome COVID-19.’ KAIST has organized the forum as an opportunity to predict the international community’s crisis caused not only in quarantine and medical fields but also across politics, economy, industry, and education systems, and to explore multifaceted measures and international cooperation plans to effectively overcome it.
In particular, although many discussions have been held on the COVID-19 situation so far, KAIST explains that this is the first case where international companies, organizations, and educational institutions have come together to discuss global cooperation measures for the ‘post-COVID-19 era.’
Experts from around the world have been invited as speakers for the forum, and KAIST will conduct presentations and discussions on an online platform to ensure participants’ safety.
The keynote speeches will be delivered by five speakers: ▲ Arnaud Bernaert, Head of Global Health and Healthcare at the World Economic Forum ▲ Jerome H. Kim, Director General of the International Vaccine Institute ▲ Alexandros Papaspyridis, Director of Higher Education Industry Solutions at Microsoft US ▲ Yong Hong-taek, Director of R&D Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT ▲ and Professor Choi Yoon-jae of the KAIST Graduate School of AI, each presenting on their respective topics.
Additionally, panel discussions will be held on topics such as ‘Impact of Economy Crisis and Education Changes’ and ‘Role of Medical Healthcare, AI and IT Technologies.’
The forum will be broadcast live worldwide via YouTube’s ‘KAIST Channel’ and ‘KTV Channel,’ allowing anyone to attend. Due to the global nature of the forum (conducted in English), the proceedings will be delivered with simultaneous interpretation subtitles.
President Shin Sung-chul stated, "This COVID-19 crisis clearly reconfirms that the world is closely connected as a hyperconnected society. Only international cooperation and collaboration based on science and technology can create a breakthrough to overcome the global crisis, and KAIST will spare no effort in deploying all its capabilities and resources to contribute to establishing a new norm politically, socially, and economically worldwide."
