Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Releases List of Construction Companies with Fatal Accidents in February and March

On the 20th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport disclosed the list of companies among the top 100 construction firms in construction capability evaluation where fatal accidents occurred from February to March. Since July last year, the Ministry has been conducting special and surprise inspections targeting large construction companies with fatal accidents.
The construction companies where fatal accidents occurred during this inspection period are Hyundai Construction, Gyeryong Construction Industry, E-Tech Construction, and Taewang E&C.
On February 20, at the Hyundai Construction site ‘Dasanjingeon Public Housing District Self-sufficient Land Blocks 3-1 and 2 Knowledge Industry Center,’ one worker died due to an accident. Since July 1 of last year, four fatal accidents have occurred at Hyundai Construction sites, resulting in six worker deaths.
On February 8, at the Gyeryong Construction Industry site ‘Seogwipo Seongsan 01BL and Seogwipo Seohong ABL Apartment Construction Project Section 1,’ one worker died. Gyeryong Construction Industry has earned the dishonor of being a construction company with fatal accidents following the fatal accident at the ‘Seoknam Extension of Seoul Subway Line 7 Building and Mechanical Equipment Construction’ site on August 22 last year.
Additionally, one fatal accident occurred at each of the E-Tech Construction and Taewang E&C sites.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will conduct focused inspections on Hyundai Construction, Gyeryong Construction Industry, E-Tech Construction, and Taewang E&C starting in May.
Meanwhile, during the same period, to prevent ground subsidence accidents, special inspections were conducted on 105 construction sites nationwide, including buildings and apartment construction projects undergoing excavation work over 10 meters deep in urban areas. A total of 112 violations were detected. Future penalty points and fines will be finally decided by the Regional Land Management Offices after administrative procedures such as objections.

Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Hyun-mi stated, “Following last year, we will continue to conduct ‘punitive site inspections’ focusing on companies where fatal accidents have occurred this year as well,” and added, “We will continuously encourage the construction industry to proactively prevent safety accidents.”
