Commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the April 19 Revolution with a Video Call to Elder Mun Hyo-young (83)... Non-Face-to-Face Consolation to Maintain Social Distancing... Expressing Gratitude for Dedication to Democracy
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the April 19 Revolution this year, Chaehyunil, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, held a video call on the 19th with Mr. Moon Hyoyoung (83), a national merit recipient of the April 19 Revolution residing in Yeongdeungpo Bondo, reflecting on the significance of the April 19 Revolution.
The original plan was to visit the national merit recipient’s home in person, but due to social distancing measures amid COVID-19, the visit was replaced with a non-face-to-face video call.
At around 10 a.m. that day, Mayor Cha made a video call from his office to Mr. Moon’s home and engaged in a conversation for about 20 minutes. Mr. Moon is the oldest (83) among the April 19 Revolution national merit recipients in the area.
Mayor Cha first inquired about Mr. Moon’s health and recent condition, asking if there were any inconveniences caused by COVID-19, and asked about his activities during the April 19 Revolution.
Mr. Moon replied that he was doing well and shared that he was a senior student at Hanyang University when the April 19 Revolution occurred. He vividly recounted his experiences participating in demonstrations at Seoul Station and other events at that time.
Mayor Cha expressed his gratitude for the dedication of Mr. Moon and other merit recipients to democracy. Mr. Moon added a heartfelt request for efforts to revitalize the local economy, which has been struggling due to COVID-19.
Mr. Moon said, “I am glad to have this meaningful conversation with the mayor via a fresh method of video call on such a significant day, reflecting on the meaning of the April 19 Revolution. I hope you always do your best for the residents.”
