eBay Korea Reports Operating Profit of 61.5 Billion KRW Last Year... 15 Consecutive Years of Profitability
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] eBay Korea announced on the 17th that its operating profit last year increased by 27% compared to the previous year, reaching 61.5 billion KRW. Sales (on a commission basis) rose 12% to 1.0952 trillion KRW. eBay Korea operates Gmarket, Auction, and G9.
Since Gmarket achieved an annual profit in 2005, it is the only domestic e-commerce company to have achieved 15 consecutive years of growth and profitability.
Sales surpassed 1 trillion KRW on a commission basis for the first time in the industry. The company stated, "This is the highest performance ever recorded in an open market format, not based on purchase-sales where sales are recorded when goods are purchased."
eBay Korea explained that this solid performance is the result of the successful establishment of the customer experience brand series "Smile," which covers all areas of the shopping experience, including payment, delivery, membership, and large-scale discount events.
