Gyeonggi-do to Operate 'Local and National Tax Joint Filing Center' Starting Next Month 1
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will accept local tax (individual local income tax) and national tax (comprehensive income tax) filings at one place at once, eliminating the need to visit local governments and tax offices separately.
On the 16th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will establish and operate a "Joint Local and National Tax Filing Center" to facilitate taxpayers' convenience for individual local income tax (comprehensive income tax portion), which will be directly filed with local governments starting this year.
Individual local income tax has so far been filed at tax offices together with income tax and VAT (10%), with only the tax payment made to local government accounts. However, to strengthen local autonomy through region-specific deductions and exemptions, the tax system has been reformed so that local governments directly receive and manage the filings starting this year.
Accordingly, the joint filing centers, operated for the first time together by local governments and the National Tax Service, will be set up and operated at a total of 56 locations: 25 tax offices and 31 city/county government offices throughout the province, from next month 1st to June 1st for one month.
The centers will provide one-stop tax administration services with 140 local government staff in charge of city/county local income tax and 53 National Tax Service (tax office) staff in charge of national tax working in shifts.
Taxpayers can visit any of the 56 locations regardless of their address to simultaneously file comprehensive income tax and individual local income tax.
The province will operate a comprehensive situation room together with cities and counties during the center’s operation period to monitor filing processing status and analyze major complaints for the successful establishment of the system.
Individual local income tax was originally required to be filed and paid by June 1st, but this year the payment deadline has been extended by three months to help overcome the damage caused by COVID-19.
