Candidate Yang Hyang-ja's Election Office Reports 3 People for Spreading False Information
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] On the 13th, the election office of Yang Hyang-ja, the Democratic Party candidate for Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu (Eul) in the April 15 general election, announced that it had filed a complaint with the Gwangju Western Police Station against three individuals, including Mr. A, for spreading false information.
The election office manager stated, “Mr. A, who was reported this time, is the person who filed a complaint on the 2nd of last month around 11 a.m., alleging that preliminary candidate Yang Hyang-ja had set up an illegal phone room, and Mr. B is the person who wrote the related article at 12:02 p.m. on the same day,” adding, “Considering the time required to write the article, it is reasonable to assume that Mr. B already knew that the complaint would be filed and was aware of the charges stated in the complaint before Mr. A submitted it.”
He continued, “The Gwangju Western Police Station confirmed on the 3rd that there was no media coverage related to the above complaint,” emphasizing, “Therefore, it can be seen that Mr. A and Mr. B acted with the intention of preventing candidate Yang Hyang-ja, who was a Democratic Party primary candidate in the local constituency at the time, from winning.”
He also stated, “In fact, without any verification from the Gwangju Western Police Station, they conspired and published false information about the candidate through newspapers in a way that was disadvantageous to the candidate, which is appropriate to consider as spreading false information.”
Furthermore, he said, “Mr. C, the spokesperson for the Minsheng Party, misled and exaggerated the facts by describing the Yang Hyang-ja campaign as violating the Public Official Election Act through illegal electioneering in a press release,” adding, “This too is appropriately considered a case of spreading false information through propaganda documents or other means to disadvantage the candidate with the intention of preventing candidate Yang from winning.”
