Gyeongnam Office of Education Recalls All 430,000 Substandard Cotton Masks Distributed to Schools
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kang Sharon] The Gyeongnam Provincial Office of Education announced on the 13th that some of the cotton masks distributed to 15 education support offices to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) were found to be below contract standards during the inspection process, and all were ordered to be recalled.
The Gyeongnam Office of Education confirmed that these cotton masks had defects such as sewing faults, inadequate finishing, and size discrepancies, which differed from the original standards.
Accordingly, they decided to recall 430,000 problematic cotton masks and plan to exchange and distribute new masks that meet the standards as soon as possible.
A total of 980,000 cotton masks were supplied to education support offices and schools at various levels this time, procured through a private contract on March 31, and payment has not been made.

Baek Woon-hyun, Director of the Physical Education, Arts, and Health Division at the Gyeongnam Office of Education, said, "We supported cotton masks to schools at various levels in preparation for the reopening of schools, but discovered problematic masks during the inspection process and proceeded with the recall. We will do our best to exchange them for properly manufactured masks as soon as possible and contribute to school quarantine efforts."
