People Party: "Lee Jae-myung, Populism Not Pragmatic Politics... If Public Apps Are Needed, Start a Startup"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 13th, the People’s Party criticized Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung, saying, “It seems that Governor Lee is struggling to counter People’s Party leader Ahn Cheol-soo’s criticism with forced logic,” and added, “If a public app is that necessary, then instead of being governor, start a startup.”
Joo Yi-sak, deputy spokesperson of the People’s Party Election Countermeasures Committee, said in a statement that day, “Governor Lee’s remark that ‘practicality is doing something helpful right now’ is nothing but populism that indiscriminately gives out benefits, not practical politics.”
Deputy spokesperson Joo pointed out, “In cases like Baedal Minjok, politicians should act like politicians and balance the tilted playing field with policies that control the monopoly power of dominant companies, rather than directly entering the market themselves,” adding, “Haven’t we already seen countless failures such as ‘Zero Pay’?”

Deputy spokesperson Joo said, “If Governor Lee intends to continue directly engaging in businesses that private companies could handle, I recommend that instead of commissioning public apps with Gyeonggi residents’ taxes, he should resign as governor, move into the Gyeonggi Startup Campus, and take the path of founding a public startup by developing and distributing apps at his own expense.”
