Google and Apple Develop COVID-19 Contact Tracing App
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] IT giants Google and Apple have joined forces to develop a smartphone application that tracks the movements of individuals infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
According to AFP on the 10th (local time), the two companies announced this in a joint statement. The app being developed will exchange information using a Bluetooth technology-based 'opt-in' method that wirelessly transmits data between Android and Apple iOS devices. It is scheduled to be released next month.

Apple CEO Tim Cook explained on Twitter, "Tracking infected individuals will help prevent the spread of COVID-19," adding, "It can be done without infringing on personal privacy."
