33.3 Million Participate on First Day of Early Voting for General Election... Record High Turnout of 12.14%
Jeonnam 18.18% Highest · Daegu 10.24% Lowest
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the first day of early voting for the 21st National Assembly election on the 10th, the final turnout rate was recorded at 12.14%. This is the highest first-day final turnout rate among nationwide elections where early voting has been applied.
The National Election Commission announced that out of a total of 43,994,247 registered voters, 5,339,786 had cast their votes during early voting held from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. that day.
By region, all 17 metropolitan cities and provinces exceeded 10%, with Jeonnam recording the highest turnout rate at 18.18%. Jeonbuk (17.21%), Gwangju (15.42%), Sejong and Gangwon (each 13.88%), Gyeongbuk (13.76%), Gyeongnam (12.52%), Chungbuk (12.2%), and Seoul (12.18%) all surpassed the final turnout rate. Following were Daejeon (12.11%), Jeju (12%), Chungnam (11.83%), Busan (11.43%), Ulsan (11.2%), Incheon (10.82%), and Gyeonggi (10.46%). The lowest turnout was in Daegu at 10.24%.
Looking at past early voting rates, the first-day final turnout rate for the 20th general election in 2016 was 5.45%. During the 2017 presidential election, it was 11.70%, and in the 2018 local elections, it was 8.77%. For the 2014 local elections, the first nationwide election to apply early voting, the first-day turnout rate was 4.75%.

Early voting continues until the 11th. A total of 3,508 polling stations have been set up nationwide. Voting hours are from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and voters must bring identification. All voters will disinfect their hands with the provided sanitizer and wear disposable vinyl gloves before voting.
