Gwanak-gu Provides Psychological Support Services for Residents Exhausted by COVID-19
Psychological Quarantine Including Mental Health Counseling and Assessment, and Provision of Psychological Stabilization Supplies
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) is implementing psychological support services for residents experiencing psychological difficulties such as anxiety, depression, and stress caused by COVID-19.
Recently, due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, residents' mental health is being threatened by fears of infection, feelings of isolation from quarantine, and stress from social distancing. There is an increasing number of residents experiencing various stress responses, including physical difficulties such as headaches and indigestion.
In particular, those who have been discharged after testing positive, self-quarantined individuals, and those released from quarantine may experience more severe depression and stress due to social stigma, highlighting the urgent need for emergency psychological support.
Accordingly, the district is strengthening psychological support services for residents by providing telephone and face-to-face counseling, mental health assessments, and information on stress relief to support psychological stability and return to daily life, targeting not only confirmed patients and self-quarantined individuals but also local residents experiencing stress.
Additionally, through the counseling process, individuals experiencing severe anxiety and stress will be connected to specialized institutions to receive more intensive counseling and management.
Furthermore, the district is making every effort to expand psychological support services by allocating supplementary budgets, hiring professional psychological counselors, and producing and providing psychological stabilization supplies.
Mayor Park Junhee stated, “In the prolonged situation of COVID-19, psychological prevention is as important as physical quarantine,” and added, “We will do our best to ensure that residents experiencing mental difficulties due to COVID-19 can receive professional counseling and treatment at any time.”
