Minsheng Party on Yoo Seung-min's Populism Mention... "Drowned but Didn't Learn to Swim, Reprimanded"
"Completely Ignoring the Suffering Experienced by the People"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 8th, the Minsaengdang criticized Rep. Yoo Seung-min of the United Future Party for labeling the emergency disaster relief payments to all citizens as "populism," saying, "It can only be seen as a textbook response that completely disregards the suffering the people are enduring," and added, "It is utterly deplorable."
Jung Woo-sik, spokesperson for the Minsaengdang Election Countermeasures Committee, said in a statement that day, "To use a metaphor, it seems like scolding someone who is drowning because they don't know how to swim, asking why they never learned swimming."
Spokesperson Jung pointed out, "The people clearly recognize that if the current economic depression caused by COVID-19 materializes, the suffering will not be limited to just the bottom 70%," and added, "Nevertheless, Rep. Yoo, under the guise of his convictions, is advocating for emergency disaster relief payments only to the bottom 50%. It raises suspicion that he might be viewing the people as subjects for moral instruction."
