[Golf Topic] Augusta "Hotel Prices Soar in November"..."$49 → $1000"
[Asia Economy Reporter Nowrae Noh] ○…$49 → $1000.
As the Masters moved from April to November, nearby hotel accommodation prices soared accordingly. On the 8th (Korean time), Golfweek in the U.S. reported, "The Roadway Inn, a lodging near Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, where the Masters is held, originally charged about $49 per night," adding, "However, this year, the price during the tournament period was changed to $1000." A lodging that usually costs about 60,000 KRW per night jumped to nearly 1,210,000 KRW, more than 20 times higher.
The Masters, held every early April, was postponed this year due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). There were rumors it would be held in October, but when Augusta National, the tournament organizer, recently set the date to November 12, accommodation prices began to rise. Besides the Roadway Inn, the Eco Suites increased from $89 to $793, and the Residence Inn by Marriott rose from $219 to $1499.

Golfweek also anticipated that local schools would take temporary breaks in November. Normally, local schools are closed for spring break during the April tournament period, and October is also the autumn break period. In mid-November, local schools usually hold regular classes. However, since many local high school students participate in tournament operations, and especially because golf fans and tournament officials rent houses near the venue while families go on vacation, a temporary break is expected to be unavoidable.
