Democratic and Civic Party Pledge to Establish Post-Corona Security System

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] The Democratic Party of Korea and the Together Citizens Party have pledged to establish a 'post-COVID-19' security system.

Ahn Gyu-baek, the Democratic Party candidate for Dongdaemun-gu Gap, Seoul, and Kim Byung-joo, the proportional representation candidate for the Citizens Party, announced this at a joint press conference on the 5th.

Candidate Ahn said, "The greatest reason for a nation's existence is to ensure the safety of its people," adding, "As the chairman of the National Defense Committee in the National Assembly, I believe national defense is the nation's foremost virtue, and I have worked for national security believing that peace on the Korean Peninsula is world peace."

Candidate Kim also stated, "As the deputy commander of the ROK-US Combined Forces Command, I have worked to overcome the threat of nuclear war on the Korean Peninsula and to open the path to peace through inter-Korean summits," and pledged to establish a ‘comprehensive security’-centered ‘Post-COVID-19 total security system.’ This system aims to strengthen national emergency planning and preparedness capabilities to respond to transnational threats such as infectious diseases like COVID-19, natural disasters, cyberattacks, and terrorism at a wartime level.

Candidate Ahn also pledged, "I will make the Republic of Korea one of the world's top five military powers," promising rapid acquisition of advanced weapon systems, completion of smart combat systems, and the phased promotion of an ‘elite military system’ to realize a future advanced military force.
