President Moon Jae-in Discusses Plans to Promote ASEAN+3 Special Video Summit in Phone Call with Vietnamese Prime Minister
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said in a phone call with President Moon Jae-in on the 3rd, "We have issued an ASEAN chairmanship statement for COVID-19 prevention cooperation. We look forward to the successful hosting of the ASEAN+3 special video summit, which is being promoted with the cooperation of Korea, the coordinating country for Korea-China-Japan cooperation, aiming for early April," White House spokesperson Kang Min-seok reported.
President Moon said, "The ASEAN+3 special video summit is very timely," and added, "Our government will also closely cooperate with Vietnam for the success of the ASEAN+3 special video summit."
President Moon especially noted, "Korea and Vietnam have valuable experience of turning a crisis into an opportunity by launching the 'ASEAN+3' cooperation system during the 1997 financial crisis," and added, "If ASEAN and the three countries of Korea, China, and Japan join forces again, we will be able to wisely overcome this situation."

Spokesperson Kang explained, "The two leaders agreed to actively promote infrastructure development cooperation projects in Vietnam such as smart cities, airports, ports, and railroads, as well as joint response cooperation projects for the 4th Industrial Revolution, which were discussed at the Seoul summit last November, as soon as the COVID-19 situation calms down."
