Prosecution Seeks 2-Year Prison Sentence for Cha Se-jji in Drunk Driving Accident
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] The prosecution has requested a two-year prison sentence for Cha Se-jji (33), son of former national soccer team coach Cha Bum-kun, who was put on trial for causing an accident while driving under the influence.
On the 3rd, at the Seoul Central District Court, Criminal Division 25, Judge Jang Won-jung presided over the trial for Cha on charges including violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes (dangerous driving causing injury). The prosecution asked the court to sentence Cha to two years in prison.
Cha said, "I admit my wrongdoing and sincerely reflect on it," adding, "I apologize to the victims and those hurt by the drunk driving accident, and I am very sorry to my family as well, as it feels like the achievements they have built are collapsing because of my crime."

Cha is accused of colliding with a car ahead while driving his own vehicle under the influence on a road in front of a restaurant in Jongno-gu, Seoul, around 11:40 p.m. on December 23 last year. At the time, Cha's blood alcohol concentration was reportedly 0.246%, which is above the license cancellation threshold. The sentencing hearing for Cha is scheduled for the 10th of this month.
