A, who identified herself as the victim's girlfriend, posted a lengthy message on her Facebook on the 1st, stating, "March 29, 2020. Just after midnight, my boyfriend became a star. It feels like just yesterday he was excited about going to university, but he never even got to attend the school he dreamed of, and he suffered such an unfair accident."
A said, "Because of the novel coronavirus infection, the school opening was postponed, so my boyfriend, who was the head of the household, worked hard to earn money on his own," adding, "He was someone who always wore a helmet while riding a motorcycle, but in just a few seconds, I lost him forever."
She continued, "The perpetrators of this accident, a total of eight boys and girls born in 2005 and 2006, stole a car and drove from Seoul down to Daejeon IC. They violated traffic signals and drove the wrong way while fleeing, and during their escape, they hit my boyfriend, who was making his last quick service delivery. He died instantly at the scene," expressing her outrage.
A said, "Only one driver was sent to a juvenile detention center because they are a 'chokbeopsonyeon' (juvenile offender not subject to criminal punishment), and the other seven were handed over to their guardians and sent home. The driver was also born in November 2006, so as a chokbeopsonyeon, they might not be punished," she said, questioning, "Since these are still immature kids who can make wrong decisions, they do not receive punishments that leave a criminal record or affect their future, but how can we consider those kids who killed someone and fled as immature?"

Finally, A urged, "The perpetrators clearly know they will receive light punishment and are laughing about it. Please help so that my boyfriend’s wrongful death is not in vain and no more victims arise," calling for strict punishment.
Meanwhile, on the 2nd, a post titled "Please severely punish the teenagers who caused a fatal accident after stealing a rental car" was uploaded on the Blue House National Petition Board. The petition received over 200,000 signatures within less than a day and had 692,592 signatures as of 8 a.m. on the 3rd.
The petitioner said, "The deceased had entered university this year and was working as a delivery courier to earn living expenses when he died," adding, "At the time, the rental car driver was a criminal minor under 14 years old, classified as a chokbeopsonyeon, so the police explained that instead of criminal punishment, protective measures would be taken."
