11st Launches Spicy Snack HMR 'Kim Boseong Maeui Pocha' Exclusively
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] As outdoor gatherings have decreased recently and the so-called 'home drinking tribe' who enjoy drinking alone at home has increased, 11st has introduced new spicy snack ready-to-eat meals (HMR) that can be easily enjoyed at home.
11st announced on the 3rd that it will exclusively launch seven new products of the ready-to-eat snack ‘Kim Boseong Maeui Ri Pocha’, co-planned with the manufacturer Korea Food. To commemorate the exclusive launch for one day, all products will be sold at a 30% discount.
The Maeui Ri Pocha series consists of seven popular menu items mainly sold at street food stalls: ‘Spicy Makchang’, ‘Smoked Makchang’, ‘Spicy Chicken Feet’, ‘Fire Skin’, ‘Jjukkumi Samgyeop’, ‘Dakgalbi’, and ‘Pork Ribs’. Prices range from 4,500 KRW (200g) to 8,900 KRW (400g).
Spicy Makchang is made by removing the odor from makchang with onions, ginger, and garlic, then marinating it in seasoning and grilling it over direct fire, followed by a second seasoning blend to create a clean, addictive spicy flavor. Smoked Makchang is smoked with oak wood, making it chewy without any unpleasant smell. Jjukkumi Samgyeop and Spicy Chicken Feet are grilled directly over fire without spices after seasoning, giving them an excellent smoky flavor. Pork Ribs are enhanced with seasoning granules for added flavor. They can be heated in a frying pan or microwave for 3-5 minutes and eaten with various vegetables or sauces according to preference.
11st developed the new products in response to the recent surge in snack sales as the home drinking tribe has grown. In fact, the sales volume of 11st’s HMR snacks increased by 101% compared to the previous year over the past month (March 3 to April 2), more than doubling in growth.

Kim Jong-yong, 11st’s processed food MD, explained, “We commercialized the keyword ‘loyalty’ of actor Kim Boseong, who usually enjoys spicy flavors, and named the product ‘Maeun Uiri Pocha’ in a way that is easy to say by shortening it to ‘Maeuri’, which sounds fun when pronounced. Composed of popular street food stall menus, it will be a snack that the home drinking tribe can easily enjoy at home.”
