Gangnam-gu Yangjaecheon Fully Closed This Weekend... One-Way Traffic Starting Next Week
High-Intensity 'Social Distancing' to Prevent COVID-19 Spread... Barrier Fences Installed on Days 4-5
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) announced that it will restrict access to the entire Yangjaecheon stream on the weekend of the 4th and 5th to prevent the local spread of COVID-19.
Following the government’s stringent ‘social distancing’ guidelines, the district has seen an increase in residents visiting Yangjaecheon to enjoy the spring cherry blossoms. To prevent the spread of infectious diseases, the Yangjaecheon Cherry Blossom Festival has been canceled, and full restrictions will be imposed on Yangjaecheon this weekend.
The restriction period will be from 9 a.m. on the 4th until midnight (24:00) on the 5th, during which the entire Yangjaecheon area, including the riverside and bicycle paths, will be completely closed off.
Furthermore, from the 6th to the 12th of next week, although the number of users is expected to decrease somewhat, due to concerns about infections from visitors bumping into each other on the two-way paths, one-way traffic will be implemented on the upper and lower walking trails along the 4.25 km Gangnam section of Yangjaecheon (from Tancheon 2 Bridge to Yeongdong 2 Bridge) between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
Accordingly, the district will install banners and barricades at each entrance to notify visitors of the restrictions, and during weekdays, hand sanitizers and control personnel will be stationed to guide the one-way traffic.

Jeong Soon-gyun, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, said, “Despite many difficulties in daily life such as self-quarantine and cancellation of various gatherings due to COVID-19, I sincerely thank the residents for actively cooperating in infection prevention. Although it is a pleasant spring day for outings, the spread of COVID-19 has not yet subsided, so I ask all residents for their active cooperation in ‘social distancing’ for the sake of all of us.”
