Over 1 Million COVID-19 Cases Worldwide... Doubled in One Week (Summary)
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Johns Hopkins University in the U.S. reported on the 2nd (local time) that the number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) worldwide has surpassed 1 million.
According to the university, as of 4 p.m. that day, 1,002,159 people had been confirmed positive. The number of confirmed cases has doubled within a week. The rapid increase in cases is due to the spread intensifying in Europe and North America, as well as the African continent facing the risk of infection.
The United States, with the highest number of patients at 236,339, is followed by Italy with 115,242 and Spain with 110,238, with these three countries each reporting over 100,000 cases. Germany, with 84,600 cases, has surpassed China, which has 82,432 cases.
The number of patients in the U.S. accounts for 23% of global infections, with about half of them occurring in New York State.
