[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Citizens or foreigners who enter the country through Incheon Airport and wish to travel to Seoul can take a dedicated taxi marked with the "Seoul Special Transportation Measures Participation Vehicle" sign at the taxi stand in front of the departure hall.
Seoul City announced on the 3rd that it will expand special transportation measures to block overseas inflow of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) by deploying 200 foreigner tourist taxis. This is an additional measure following the operation of eight temporary airport bus routes on the 30th of last month.
Dedicated special transportation taxis exclusively for arrivals will be stationed with 100 vehicles each at Passenger Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 of the airport. Anyone whose destination is Seoul can use them. Seoul City will assign guides at four entrances of Terminal 1 and two entrances of Terminal 2 to provide assistance.
The special transportation taxis operate with a vinyl partition installed between the front seat (first row) and the back seat (second row). However, since it will take some time to install vinyl partitions in all vehicles, until then, drivers will operate wearing protective suits and masks.
Following Seoul City's decision to conduct COVID-19 diagnostic tests on all overseas arrivals residing in Seoul starting today, passengers taking the special transportation taxis will first be transported to their local public health center for testing before proceeding to their final destination. However, from the 3rd, once a testing site is set up at Jamsil Sports Complex, arrivals between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. can go there for testing before continuing to their final destination.
After transporting overseas arrivals, the special transportation taxis will immediately return to Incheon International Airport for vehicle disinfection.
The fare will be the same as the current foreigner tourist taxi zone fare. For a mid-sized taxi, the fare from Incheon International Airport to the Gangseo area is 65,000 KRW, and to Songpa, Gangdong, Nowon, Dobong, and other areas is 90,000 KRW.
The city expects that overseas arrivals who wish to use taxis will be able to travel safely through the designated dedicated taxis in advance, improving convenience of transportation.
