View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced on the 1st that it has formed and is operating a special support team for victims of digital sex crimes related to Telegram.
The special support team was established following a public-private countermeasure meeting held on the 24th of last month, where the need for prompt and comprehensive support for digital sex crime cases such as the Nth Room and Doctor's Room was raised.
The special support team consists of the Korea Women's Human Rights Institute under the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the National Sexual Violence Counseling Centers, the Korea Sexual Violence Crisis Center, and the Sunflower Center. It is organized into units for rapid deletion support, in-depth psychological support, counseling and investigation support, and legal support.
By applying through the 24-hour Women's Emergency Hotline 1366 or the Digital Sex Crime Victim Support Center, the special support team provides services such as rapid deletion, in-depth psychological treatment, counseling and investigation, accompaniment support for personal information changes, and free legal assistance. For minors, deletion support is available without parental consent.
The number of digital sex crime counseling cases at the Women's Emergency Hotline 1366 increased from 227 in February to 330 in March, and the counseling and deletion cases at the Digital Sex Crime Victim Support Center increased by 35%.
The government is preparing a comprehensive countermeasure for digital sex crimes in cooperation with related ministries, and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family plans to include measures to strengthen prevention of digital sex crimes and protection of victims in the plan. In collaboration with related agencies such as the Ministry of Education, they plan to enhance digital sex crime prevention education at each growth stage of elementary, middle, and high school students.

Minister Lee Jung-ok of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family said, "I deeply feel the need for a support system that victims can trust, as the fear of social stigma was used as a weapon of intimidation against victims," adding, "Victims of digital sexual exploitation, illegal filming, distribution, and threats on platforms such as Telegram, please do not hesitate to contact the Digital Sex Crime Victim Support Center or the Women's Emergency Hotline 1366. The government will stay by your side until illegal videos are deleted and you can return to your daily life."
