Some Areas in Australia Face a Fine of 8.3 Million KRW for Leaving Home Without Justifiable Reason
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju Seok] In New South Wales, Australia, people who leave their homes without a valid reason will face six months of imprisonment or a fine of 11,000 Australian dollars (8.3 million KRW).
According to Australian media on the 31st, the New South Wales government has issued the "Public Health Order 2020," which restricts gatherings related to COVID-19. This measure stipulates that "people must not leave their residence unless there is a reasonable excuse."
The local police explained that this measure is primarily intended to educate citizens rather than immediately impose fines. However, repeated violations of related measures can result in six months of imprisonment.
Companies that violate this will be fined 55,000 Australian dollars.
However, marriage and funerals, moving, blood donation, fulfilling legal responsibilities, using public services, and religious duties by clergy are recognized as reasonable excuses.
Gladys Berejiklian, Premier of New South Wales, appealed to "refrain from going outside except for legally permitted purposes," emphasizing, "If everything can be resolved inside the house, do not leave your home."
