4 Additional COVID-19 Cases Confirmed in Jeonnam...Health Authorities on Alert
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Chunsu Kim] Community transmission of COVID-19 now appears to hinge critically on the thorough management of overseas arrivals to prevent further spread.
Four confirmed COVID-19 cases, including overseas arrivals, were simultaneously reported in Yeosu, Suncheon, and Muan, Jeollanam-do, prompting health authorities to launch an investigation.
Health authorities stated that the recent cases in Jeollanam-do do not constitute a cluster infection. However, with multiple confirmed cases including overseas arrivals and one patient being a nonagenarian, the authorities remain on high alert.
According to Jeollanam-do on the 31st, three overseas arrivals from the United Kingdom tested positive in Yeosu and Suncheon on the 29th.
In Yeosu, a 25-year-old woman, Ms. A, and a 22-year-old Spanish national, Mr. B, who arrived together with Ms. A, were confirmed positive.
Similarly, in Suncheon, a 43-year-old man, Mr. C, who arrived from the United Kingdom around the same time, tested positive.
It is reported that they were diagnosed positive during self-quarantine after arrival.
In Muan, additional infections occurred linked to confirmed cases from Manmin Church.
According to health authorities, a confirmed case related to Manmin Church residing in Seoul met his 91-year-old mother living in Muan on the 23rd, before his positive diagnosis, during which the mother was also infected.
Health authorities are conducting an urgent epidemiological investigation, including tracing the movements and contacts of the infected individuals, while transferring them to Suncheon Medical Center and Chonnam National University Hospital.
