Extension of Recruitment Period for Gwanak-gu Child Rights Monitoring Group Members
Extension of Application Period Until April 14 Due to Nationwide Postponement of Elementary, Middle, and High School Openings Amid COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) is extending the recruitment period for the ‘2020 Gwanak-gu Child Rights Monitoring Group,’ originally scheduled to end on March 27, until April 14.
Due to the postponement of nationwide elementary, middle, and high school openings to prevent the spread of COVID-19, institutional recommendations from schools have been insufficient, so the period has been extended to compensate.
The Gwanak-gu Child Rights Monitoring Group is formed as part of creating a child-friendly city to reflect the opinions of children and adolescents in policies and to promote the rights and interests of children.
The recruitment target is children and adolescents aged 8 to 18 who reside in Gwanak-gu or students enrolled in grades 1 through 12 in schools within Gwanak-gu.
Selected members will be awarded a letter of appointment, and their volunteer activities will be recognized. Outstanding members will also receive a commendation from the mayor.
Children and adolescents who wish to apply can download the application form from the popup window or the notice section on the Gwanak-gu Office website and submit it via email (kyoung42@ga.go.kr), mail, or in person.
On the 9th, Gwanak-gu was certified as a ‘Child-Friendly City’ by the UNICEF Korea Committee, proving it is a city where children are happy and respected.
Since January 2019, the district has established a dedicated organization and clarified the legal basis through the enactment and revision of ordinances, laying the administrative foundation for promoting child-friendly city initiatives.
By conducting child surveys and closely examining detailed projects directly or indirectly related to children, a four-year mid- to long-term plan has been established. All departments collaborate to promote key tasks aimed at the healthy growth, safety, and rights enhancement of children.
Mayor Park Junhee said, “We will provide various women, child, and childcare services so that all children growing up in Gwanak-gu can have their rights respected and grow up happily. We will ensure that Gwanak-gu is recognized as a city good for raising children and a city where children and women are happy.”
