Gwangju City Promotes '2020 Local Agenda 21 Implementation Project'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 29th that it will promote the ‘2020 Local Agenda 21 Implementation Project’ including the creation of ecological cultural villages in collaboration with the Gwangju Sustainable Development Council.
The implementation projects include four initiatives: ecological cultural village creation, citizen seed projects, ecological environment practice projects, and economic and social practice projects. These cover 17 areas such as ▲water circulation city ▲urban forest creation ▲resource circulation in daily life ▲energy transition city ▲urban agriculture ▲human-centered traffic environment ▲village community.
Among these, the ecological cultural village creation project is a representative village community project of Gwangju, selecting and supporting about 30 small-scale village projects annually since 2009.
Recently, through the Daga-chi Green App, active participation is ongoing with activities such as river purification and waste separation promotion in apartment and other village communities, where the city supports points accumulated through these activities in a ‘village community point funding activity’.
Meanwhile, the city is selecting organizations to carry out the four projects this year through committee evaluations and on-site assessments for each project field.
Currently, 15 organizations including the Seonam-dong Village Community have been selected for the ecological cultural village creation project, and 8 clubs including ‘Dreaming Polar Bear’ have been selected for the citizen seed project.
The ecological environment practice project and economic and social practice project are planned to be finalized by the end of this month.

Song Yong-su, head of the city’s Environmental Policy Division, said, “To achieve Gwangju city’s sustainable development goals, we will support various implementation projects so that citizens can discover and actively participate in practical agendas in daily life.”
