GS25 Strengthens Same-Day Wine Reservation Service 'Wine25'... Expands to Vodka and Tequila
30th Anniversary Premium Alcohol Sales Available
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] GS25 announced on the 29th that it will expand the product lineup of its same-day wine reservation service ‘Wine25’ and also start limited reservation sales of premium alcoholic beverages to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the convenience store’s launch.
Wine25 is a wine reservation service where if you order by 11 a.m., you can purchase the product at the store by 6 p.m. on the same day, driving growth in wine alcohol sales. In fact, GS25’s wine sales have shown high year-over-year growth rates of 38.5% in 2018, 55.8% in 2019, and 20.1% as of March this year. Especially, wine sales at GS25 stores in the Gangnam area, which introduced Wine25 last December, increased by 72.3% compared to before, with notable sales of premium wines such as ‘Kendall-Jackson’ and ‘Camelot Pinot Noir.’
Accordingly, from the 3rd of next month, GS25 will expand its alcoholic beverage products to allow reservations for various popular products such as cognac, vodka, tequila, gin, and rum. The service stores will also be expanded to all stores in the metropolitan area by the first half of the year. Wine25 orders can be placed through the GS Fresh application (app) or GS25’s official app ‘My Fridge,’ and customers can pay and pick up at GS25 stores.
Additionally, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the convenience store’s launch, GS25 will offer limited quantity reservation sales of the 1990 vintage ultra-premium wine ‘Chateau Mouton Rothschild’ and the 2018 vintage Goose Island ‘Bourbon County Stout’ beer.
Chateau Mouton Rothschild is a 1990 vintage product with only 20 bottles available. It is produced by one of the five Grand Cru wineries in Bordeaux, France, and is a wine that gains more attention each year through collaborations with the most popular artists of the era on the label design. The 1990 vintage label was designed by Francis Bacon, an artist from Ireland. It is blended with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, offering black fruit aromas, good balance, and a powerful body. The price is 1,490,000 KRW.
GS25 will also sell the 2018 vintage Goose Island Bourbon County Stout, the first beer in the industry brewed using barrel aging. Barrel aging is a technique of maturing wine, whiskey, cognac, etc., in barrels, and Goose Island was the first to attempt this in the beer industry. The 2018 vintage product was aged in barrels for about 18 months after brewing, combining the malt’s savory flavor, the bitterness of hops, and the unique aroma of oak barrels. It has an alcohol content of 15.2% and is available in a limited reservation sale of 400 bottles (500ml). The price is 59,000 KRW.
Purchasing premium wine and beer will be available nationwide at GS25 stores starting from 10 a.m. on April 1 through reservation sales. The prepared quantity will automatically end once sold out on a first-come, first-served basis. Reserved wines can be picked up on April 10?11, and beers on April 16, 23, or 29, according to the customer’s preferred date.
