Gangdong-gu Provides 200,000 KRW Incentive for Voluntary Income Change Reporting by Welfare Recipients
Encouragement and Support for Welfare Benefit Recipients Who Diligently Report Income Changes
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is promoting the 'Voluntary Reporting of Income Changes for Welfare Recipients' project to implement an appropriate and fair social security system.
Recipients of welfare benefits such as basic livelihood security recipients are required to report any changes in their income when they start new employment or entrepreneurship. However, anticipating disadvantages such as suspension or reduction of welfare benefits due to income changes, cases of hiding or not reporting work details are increasing.
Accordingly, Gangdong-gu is promoting a project that provides an incentive of 200,000 KRW per household to welfare recipients who voluntarily report income changes. Through this, the district aims to encourage sincere reporting by welfare recipients, minimize fraudulent claims, and ensure support is provided to those who truly need assistance.
The incentive support targets basic livelihood security recipients, lower-income welfare recipients, and their obligated supporters who have newly started employment or entrepreneurship and have sincerely reported their earned income. Support is available if the individual maintains work activity for more than three months.
When work income is generated through employment, welfare recipients must visit their local community service center, submit their employment contract and pay statement, and report the income change. Once selected as a voluntary reporting support recipient, Gangdong-gu will provide the incentive to the household using funds from the Community Chest of Korea.
Gangdong-gu is promoting the stable establishment of this system through informational leaflets and is also providing separate guidance to new welfare recipients or those who have moved from other regions, as well as welfare facility users.
