Donation of 30% of Total Salary for 4 Months to Gwangju Social Welfare Community Chest
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] On the 26th, Lee Yong-seop, Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, donated 12 million KRW, which is 30% of four months' total salary, to the Gwangju Community Chest of Korea to share the pain with citizens suffering from COVID-19.
The mayor had planned to donate 30% of his monthly salary for four months, but decided to donate the four months' worth in advance so that even a small amount could be delivered to citizens struggling due to COVID-19 as quickly as possible.
The mayor said, "The collective strength and wisdom shown by our citizens so far will accelerate the end of the COVID-19 crisis and become the driving force for our society to rise again," adding, "With an even more extraordinary determination, we will establish a watertight local quarantine safety net to block community infections, and on the other hand, build a dense economic stabilization system to simultaneously protect citizens' health and the local economy."
