SH Corporation Attaches 'Antibacterial Film' to Rental Housing Elevators to Prevent COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH) announced on the 26th that it will attach antibacterial films to elevators in public rental housing to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The targets are 1,421 elevator internal control buttons and floor buttons installed in 214 rental-only housing complexes managed by the corporation.
An SH official explained, "To prevent COVID-19 among public housing residents, antibacterial films containing copper components will be attached to elevator control buttons, which are used by many people and are vulnerable to virus infection."
Antibacterial films made with copper material are known to be effective in preventing cross-infection of contagious diseases, with research showing that half of the viruses disappear within one hour and all viruses are eliminated within four hours (while viruses can survive up to 72 hours on plastic). The films maintain excellent antibacterial effects even with repeated use, effectively preventing infection until the film is damaged.
